AHMAD Naufal bin Haji Norasman of Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien College and Najihah binti Norasman of Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha Girls Arabic Religious Secondary School were selected as the champions in the male and female categories of the finals of the 35th National Al-Quran Reading Competition for Secondary Schools and Colleges at the multipurpose hall of Sayyidina Abu Bakar Secondary School (SMSAB) yesterday.
The guest of honour, Acting Director of Co-Curriculum Education Muhammad Norilham bin Haji Jais, presented the prizes and certificates.
In the male category, Mohammad Hamiz Mirza bin Haji Sudirman of Sultan Muhammad Jamalul Alam Secondary School was in second place, while in third place was Mohd Nur Razin bin Rosli of Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Damit Girls Arabic Religious Secondary School.
In the female category, Dayangku Akma Nabilah binti Pengiran Haji Jofri of Berakas Secondary School and Nur’ Ameera Hakeemah binti Shahraimi of Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha Secondary School came in second and third places.
A total of 25 male and 23 female participants took part in the early stages of the competition while only five male and five female participants competed in the finals.
Co-chairperson of the event and Principal of SMSAB Sin Ai Chin expressed her gratitude for being given the opportunity to host the competition this year and hoped that the participants will listen to the Quranic verses being recited.
The Spiritual Unit of the Co-Curriculum Education Department at the Ministry of Education organised the annual competition to instil the culture of reading Al-Quran among students and encourage them to improve recitation quality.
